Q 1.Text, p. 39 (question 2); 2.Text, p. 58 (question 3) 3.After viewing the movie about Oscar Romero: Oscar Romero’s legacy was tied to the tragic death of Fr. Rutilio. Following his vicious murder, Romero pledged three concrete actions in order to align the Church with the poor, especially the families of the poor who had disappeared. In order to do that, he had to break the Church’s traditional alliance with the powerful. He did this by stating that he would “not participate in any government functions until Father Rutlio’s death was investigated.” He also “closed all the Catholic schools so they could study the ‘National reality.’” And finally, he declared “a Misa Unica”’ which meant that the following Sunday there would be only one Mass in the archdiocese. Every priest and every Catholic had only one choice if he or she wanted to receive Eucharist that week. In doing this, he organized one of the largest peasant rallies ever. To the more than 100, 000 people who attended this Mass he said, “How different our country would be if it reaped what God has sown,” he said in his sermon. Misa Unicawas a public, non-violent, prayerful protest against those who had the power to allow so many brutal murders, tortures, and disappearances. Did Romero's actions promote God’s justice on earth and make visible Jesus’ preferential option for the poor? Explain. (The movie, Monsenor: The Last Journey of Oscar Romero, has excellent examples that will help you to fully respond to this question. You are advised to view this movie before responding to the question.) Instructions for Submission of weekly written assignments: Create responses to the questions in one Word Document. Faith ensures that Christians do not feel scared to try to help a neighbor by going to the extent of risking their lives. Otherwise, if any Christian does not believe in sacrifices or in being selfless towards the other members of the society; the decision will always be not to be selfless or never to try to save a neighbor’s life by risking the Christian’s life. One example of developing faith is to forgive convicted offenders and try to restore such individuals to be united with the other members of the society through restorative justice.
